Luxury Lipstick Trending Colors

lipstick

Masks mandates are being lifted, people are going back to their social lives, and making a statement look with your smile is more important than ever. Luxury Cosmetics brands like Kylie Cosmetics can get ahead of their competition by paying close attention to which colors and shades of lipstick are most popular among their core consumer base. That’s where we come in.

Next Year’s Predicted Lipstick Color Winners

The team here at Simporter used our White Space AI tool to analyze 30 luxury lipstick colors to forecast what will be trending in 2023.

The graphic below breaks down the 10 lipstick colors we believe possess the highest potential for growth in 2023. Lipstick color opportunity scores are determined by looking at both share of voice (a leading indicator of market share) and year-over-year growth rate.

Check out our Predicted Winners Lip List and comments below.

White

White tops our list with an outstanding 552.17 percent growth potential despite the color’s modest 1.42 percent share of voice. While not everyone wants to wear white lipstick on its own, White lipstick can be combined with other colors to create cool ombre and gradient effects. So, even if you’re not ready to rock a pure white lip, White lipstick is a great option to have to lighten or alter other lipstick colors.

Red

There’s nothing more iconic than the perfect red lip regularly worn by Taylor Swift, Gwen Stefani, and Lupita Nyong’o. While the industry giant holds a substantial 25.19 percent share of voice, there’s still room to paint the town Red next year. Our team predicts Red will experience 125.64 percent growth as wearers will still want to flaunt the powerful color, especially now that masks no longer cover up this facial real estate.

Gold

Metallic lipstick colors will be trending in 2023, and our team predicts the color holds an impressive 502.17 growth potential. Gold lipsticks like this one sold at Nordstrom are vibrant, drawing attention to the face and often enhancing a bold look. For consumers who can’t commit to intense shades of Gold, a Nude or Rose gold shade will be perfect for the office or running errands. Brand should look to offer a variety of Gold lipstick colors to make the color approachable for different consumers.

Glitter

Glitter adds a little glam to every look — something consumers will be talking about in 2023. Similar to Gold and a few others on this list, high-impact colors that make heads turn when you smile are going to dominate in 2023. Glitter has a 1.51 percent share of voice and should explode next year with a growth rate of 372.17 percent.

Coral

Coral takes the fifth spot on our winner’s list, predicted to grow 402.17 percent in the new year. Coral lipsticks like this Givenchy option are an excellent solution for busy consumers who have limited time to pull together a finished look. Warmer than red and brighter than crimson, Coral is the perfect color that looks good on any skin tone and gives off the perfect, subtle glow any time of day. Make sure your lipstick product line incorporates Coral shades for consumers with active lifestyles.

Shine

Shiny colors will shine bright in 2022, predicted to grow 218.84 percent in 2022. Consumers will be talking about products like Fenty Beauty’s Shiny Lipstick that offer easy-to-wear colors that don’t require much effort. As consumers consolidate their beauty routines, they’ll look for versatile and convenient colors they can toss on with any look.

Satin

We recently predicted Satin would grow 118.84 percent next year, so it’s no surprise to see Satin make it onto our winning color’s list for lipsticks. While the color has a slight 0.57 percent share of voice, we predict it will grow 352.17 percent next year. Satin sits right in the middle of Matt and Glitter, making products like this MAC satin lipstick a great option for the everyday wearer. It’s versatile and provides just the right touch of moisture, making it a slam dunk option for brands in 2023.

Rose

The future is looking pretty rosy for Rose lipstick colors in 2022. The team here at Simporter predicts the color holds a 172.17 percent growth potential for the new year. Major brands like Kylie Cometics are expanding their Rose-colored product lines with options like this KHLO Matte Liquid Lipstick, so other brands should follow suit.

Consumers love Rose lipstick because it’s strong and feminine without coming across as too girly — it’s pink with a more neutral base that looks good on anyone at any age. So, they’ll be looking for this approachable color to complement on-the-go lifestyles and pre-pandemic routines.

Blue

Probably the most fun color on our list, Blue takes the penultimate spot with a 3.71 percent share of voice. While Blue lipstick might seem impossible to pull off, the color tops Pantone’s Color Trend Report for 2022, and our team predicts it holds a 177.17 percent growth potential for 2023. Brands can expect the bravest consumers to be interested in bright and bold blues that are unexpectedly delightful.

Nude

Like those found in Halsey’s About Face Lip Color, Nude colors round out the bottom of our predicted winner’s list for 2023, and we predict these colors will grow 129.09 percent. As consumers adjust to pre-pandemic routines, they’ll be looking for Nude lipsticks that can transition from morning to night.

Nude lipsticks colors are great for all skin tones when available in diverse shades and finishes. Brands looking to get ahead in 2023 should ensure their product lineups capitalize on consumer interest in finding colors that match or complement their natural skin tones.
