Our AI models predict Shea Butter has a 452.17 percent growth potential for 2022 – that’s 200 percent higher than the next ingredient on our list. Products like this Shea enhanced facial cleanser from L’Occitane are going to thrive next year. So, why will consumers flock to this ingredient in 2022?

Not only does it smell fantastic, but Shea Butter has anti-inflammatory and healing properties, making it a perfect ingredient to use on the face. When used regularly, Shea Butter soothes, tones, and conditions the skin. This ideal ingredient should be at the top of your brand’s “to-use” list for the upcoming calendar year. 

Essential Oils

Essential Oils are true multitaskers — not only do they smell good, but they also naturally cleanse the skin. They’ve become increasingly popular across the board, ranging from oil diffusers to soaps, candles, and any other fragrance-driven products. 

The team here at Simporter predicts cleansers with Essential Oils have an impressive 252.17 percent growth potential for 2022. This ingredient only holds a 0.16 share of voice, so expect buzz about Essential Oils to skyrocket next year.  

Essential Oils are a large category that encompasses so many different scents and fragrances, so brands have a lot of room to play around with in this category. Charcoal

You’ve used it for a family cookout, you may have even seen it pop up in some toothpaste varieties, and now, it’s in cleansers. Charcoal is an all-natural cleanser, and our AI models forecast it has a 218.84 percent growth potential for the new year. This ingredient, which holds a 0.87 percent share of voice, has a lot of room to expand its footprint in the Luxury Cosmetics market.

Younger buyers require these all-natural products, which contain natural charcoal to draw out the dirt and excess oil that can clog pores. The soothing, non-drying lather gently foams away impurities, detoxifies, and purifies—leaving all skin types feeling fresh and comfortable.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil (0.53 percent share of voice) lives within the Essential Oil family, so it’s no surprise it takes the third spot on our predicted winner’s list for 2022. We predict Tea Tree Oil and its bacteria-fighting benefits will have a 152.17 percent growth potential next year. 

Soy Extract

Derived from soybeans, we forecast that Soy Extract (0.80 percent share of voice) will see a 100.50 percent growth potential for the new year. Consumers will be looking for products that even out skin tones and reduce visible signs of aging, such as this one from fresh

Brands looking to stay ahead of the curve in 2022 should include this ingredient in cleansers because it fits into minimalist, skincare-centric beauty routines that will be the focus of Gen Z and younger consumers. 

Peach

We predict Peach has triple-digit growth potential for 2022 (102.17 percent) despite its modest 0.56 percent share of voice. While commonly thought to only impact older consumers, younger consumers can be plagued by dark spots if they’ve been spending too much time in the sun without proper sun protection. Peach helps reduce the appearance of these unsightly spots by promoting tissue repair. 

Brand should look to incorporate Peach into next year’s cleanser lineup with products like this one from Peter Thomas Roth, but make it accessible to multiple generations instead of siloing promotion to older consumers. Witch Hazel

Consumers will be increasingly interested in cleansers with naturally derived ingredients like Witch Hazel, so we predict a 52.17 percent growth potential for the new year. 

AHA/Glycolic Acid

AHA/Glycolic Acid is set to have a successful 2022 with consumer interest growing in this ingredient. Our AI models predict 39.67 percent growth with a 1.21 percent share of voice. 

AHA/Glycolic’s skin-renewing properties make this a perfect ingredient for cleansers. It renews the skin, and brands should incorporate it into cleansers to give wearers that flawlessly hydrated skin glow. Also, think about leveraging Glycolic Acid in anti-aging-focused cleansers as it helps improve the skin’s texture and tone. 

Salicylic Acid

2022 should be a growth year for Salicylic Acid, and our team predicts a 6.34 increase for this ingredient within the cleanser category. It has a 2.20 percent share of voice which is the largest of any ingredient on this list. 

Salicylic Acid’s one of those ingredients commonly recommended by dermatologists, and for good reason — its exfoliating and antiseptic benefits fight acne and warts. It’s also leveraged as a preservative, so nothing gross starts growing inside products. Brands like Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics are introducing these types of cleanser options into their lineups to get ahead of the competition. 

Cedarwood

Cedarwood claims the final spot on our predicted winner’s list for 2022. Our team predicts this ingredient’s success will be modest, growing a little over two percent (2.17 percent, to be exact) next year. Its 0.80 percent share of voice is also on the subtle side compared to most options discussed throughout this list.

When used in luxury cosmetics, Cedarwood provides anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits, which combats breakouts. Also a natural astringent, Cedarwood reduces the appearance of pores and can be particularly helpful to those suffering from mild to severe acne and eczema.

Ingredients Matter

Ingredients matter. Quality matters. Take notice of your consumers’ needs and leverage market data to pivot your business ahead of significant preference shifts.
